Hi, Emily here 🙂 and during our #ProtectiveStylingSeries running this month, I will be showing you the different ways I style my Faux Locs.

I’d been considering getting the Faux Locs done for a while now. They were the new “in thing” that every girl in Nairobi was getting and they looked really good, especially as they aged. There was only one problem, everyone that had had them would all tell me that if I ever considered getting them done, I’d have to be prepared to give up sleep for not one, but two weeks (Gasp!)

But being as stubborn as I am, I thought to myself, “If they can brace it, why not me?” So I called the lady that had done my friend’s Faux Locs (Will include her contacts at the end of this post) and we scheduled a date. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of salons due to the way they roughly handle my Head (I mean come on! What did my Hair ever do to you? ) So anyway, this lady was the best thing that happened to me as she attends to her clients at the comfort of their homes. Now who wouldn’t want that? You get to watch TV, Have Tea and Lunch breaks plus numerous “washroom breaks” as an excuse to keep checking how much hair is yet to get done/plaited Lol.

I ended up having a lot of those “breaks” because the whole installation process (Too Technical? Haha) of the Faux Locs took almost 7 Hours!!! I’m not sure if it’s coz I had “many” Locs installed or the lady was just slow but damn! I can’t count the many times I changed poses on my chair. My back was in pain. My head too… And just when you think it’s over, there’s still more hair waiting to get done (Sigh)

But wait… There’s more. I couldn’t sleep that night because the pain on my scalp was Unbearable!!! Ladies and Gents, I am not Exaggerating. I had to sit up all night because the slightest pressure on my scalp felt like thousands of wilder beasts running on top of it. It got better though as the weeks went by, but still! (I was on pain killers for a couple of days after) The next time I’m getting Faux Locs will definitely consider getting Crotchet instead. Thank God for other options.

So below I will be taking you through the different ways I styled my Faux Locs. Some of the Styles being Elegant ‘n’ Classy and others being Sassy ‘n’ Fun! Enjoy 🙂

The Bun

I always find myself drawn to a Bun as my go-to-style as it is easy to put up and takes less than 10 minutes to do. I styled mine in a High Bun and left a strand at the back just because I thought it’d be Cool Haha!

The High Ponytail

I do a High Ponytail when I’m trying to have fun with my hair. I love how it just falls to the sides of my head and swings back and forth every time I turn my head to either side (Attention seeker much?)

The Pigtails

Now these I put up when trying to pull off a cutesy look. I tie up some hair in the front in pigtails and leave out some at the back. I thought they looked really Cool with the Faux Locs. Try it! 🙂

The Bunned Pigtails

This has got to be my Fave Style! Not only is it easy to do, but screams Sassy and Fun! I basically Bunned the Pigtails from the previous Style and Voila! There you have it.
